Kate Bold
Teacher at Bridge House College
My favourite thing about my current job is that I am constantly learning. I am challenged and stretched every day and there is always something new to tackle. My experience is mainly in teaching at an independent school, but I am interested in exploring opportunities in other sectors in addition to education.
My work experience thus far has taught me many things. Among these are:
-Curriculum planning
-Assessment planning
-Interpersonal relationships
-Logistical planning for outings and trips
-Organisational skills
-Diversification in my teaching methods
-To deal with unexpected difficulties (especially technical)
-Changing work systems
-Diplomacy and conflict management
-Effective time management
My responsibilities at my current position are:
-Home room teacher - taking register, keeping track of the academic and personal well-being of the children under my care, reporting, pastoral care, communication with parents, life skills
-Subject grade coordinator - Grade 8 and 11 - setting tests, standardising tests and assignments, coordinating schedules, work plans (year and term) and deadlines
-Grade coordinator - Grade 9 - helping to schedule and plan grade-related activities, coordinating grade home room teachers to achieve a theme and goal for the pastoral learning journey of the grade
-(In previous years) Boarding duty staff - weekly and weekend duties, responsible for the well-being of the female students, coordinating and arranging outings and activities, driving, first aid level 1
I like to be busy and useful to my colleagues. I enjoy working independently, and I also enjoy collaborating in a team. I like to work towards finding solutions to problems.
I believe that working hard and working smart, coupled with empathy and clear communication are the foundational elements for a successful and happy work life.
