I like to help people. My current gig might be the blog writer and website guy, but those aren't the only things I do. When I'm not doing my damnedest writing entertaining blog articles you can usually find me helping someone out. Do you need a graphic design because our official graphic designer is too busy? I'll get it to you in two ticks! Need someone to do some hocus-pocus on the possessed printer to get it to do its thing? Reparo! Computer not starting again? People call me before they call IT. Is the water-cooler dry and the printer out of paper? I'll walk those thousand miles for refills downstairs. I also refill the kettle, every time.
I also like to solve annoying problems. The men's bathroom door announced every man's arrival and departure to the throne with a squeak that could wake dragons. After a week of this, you bet I brought some Q20 to work to sort that damn door out. The internal newsletter was being done by our most talented graphic designer, but because he was always busy doing projects that mattered it ended up as a bit of a slap-jab job. After asking very nicely I took over the newsletter and it immediately started getting readers and compliments. At a previous gig, our order form was trash so I redesigned it for my department, and pretty soon it became the standard. I even redesigned the logo for both the companies I've worked for in the past and the bosses didn't seem to mind.
By trade, I'm a graphic designer, front-end web developer and copywriter. By schooling, I'm a UX and product designer. By hobby, I'm a reader, writer and researcher. I like to help people with what I do, even if it's just to brighten up your day with some entertaining text.
My work experience, after failing for a year to get entry-level jobs that require three years experience, starts out at a small business called Wanted Clothing in Potchefstroom. I was the screen printing department. The typical day would entail consulting with a client, organizing job schedules, designing artwork for print, prepping and doing the actual screen printing and some admin. After three months of that I got a job as a designer at SAKSA Technologies, a military vehicle company, as a graphic designer and 3D CAD modeler. I even did some concept designs for their military vehicles, which was fun. Finally and most recently I'm a web coordinator, graphic designer and copywriter for StarSat, a telecommunications company.
