The Economic Equality Charter was established by the Western Cape Social Economic Development Forum in order to address the challenges hindering transformation, social justice and economic liberation.
The WCSEDF is an NPO focused on economic transformation that has representation at a provincial, regional and local level and is made up of organisations, companies and individuals from every sector.
The Economic Equality Charter and the campaign around it seek to address economic equality, corporate collusion & corruption, BBEEE, employment equity, unemployment, worker's rights and working conditions.
Many companies are unwilling to transform and change their racially biased behaviour and this is evidenced by how many companies perform poorly when it comes to BBEEE targets, employment equity targets and by corporate collusion to keep black business out of entire industries and sectors or side-line them so that they don't grow beyond a certain size.
Corporate greed, collusion, black business exclusion, corruption, an unwillingness to transform the economy and the failed implementation of policies such as BBEEE and land reform are all symptoms of a deeper problem in our society, namely institutionalized racially based economic discrimination.
Whilst our political and structural institutions were transformed holistically in 1994 our economy was not, and today we still suffer under Apartheid unresolved economic legacy.
