Zambia stops importing beef from Europe
A chemical called aromatic aldehydes was discovered in beef offal and hooves mainly imported from the UK, the company said.
Zambeef last month recalled from its retail outlets all imported products after concerns that they contained the chemical, which is also used to embalm dead bodies, prompting laboratory tests.
"After the events of the last one month the company has taken a clear and unequivocal decision to return to its roots and deal exclusively in Zambian beef products only," chairman of Zambeef Jacob Mwanza said.
